Permissions/Right Issues

Reported by: mscalia Owned by:
Priority: major Milestone: 6.3.4
Component: User Interface Version: 6.3.3
Keywords: Cc:

Currently there is no way to give a user right to only one subfolder. The "Apply Rights" button applies the rights to all sub-folders automatically. For instance, if I want to give a user access to the "Mike" folder under Culver>People>Mike I have to give them "read" rights on the Culver folder as well as the People folder so that they can see Mike. This makes sense. The problem is that as soon as I give them rights, for example, on the "People" folder, they are now given view rights on EVERY folder under People as well. This makes it almost impossible to give granular permissions to people.

Probably this is not be a bug. When you create a new folder, this new folder points to the parent for the ACLs.
So every time you changes you made on the parent will take effect in the child folder, since it aldready points to the parent for the ACLs.

If you want to 'unbind' a child from the parent you have to open the security tab of the child and click on 'apply right'. In this way the folder starts to have its own policies and drops the pointer to the parent.
When you click on appy to sub-folders you basically are erasing all the ACLs of the children and all of them will point to the currently selected folder for their ACLs.

Please confirm the behaviour, so we can close the issue.
