#280 closed wish (worksforme)

Lack of consistency for filenames between web interface and office add-in dialog.

Reported by: admin@… Owned by:
Priority: minor Milestone:
Component: Office Addin Version: 6.5.2
Keywords: Cc:

Description

The web interface displays the "title" of files but the office add-in displays the original name of the file.

This is very confusing for the users as they don't recognize/find the files that have been renamed using the web-interface when trying to access them directly from Word using the office add-in.

The name of the files should be similar in both interfaces.

The web GUI shows both informations, so you can clearly identify what is the title and what is the file name.
The addins are contrained to use the filesystem that's why they primarly show the file name.
In addition, in general the title reflects the file name.

Do you realize how time consuming it is for the user to swap between the web-interface and the office add-in to figure out which file they want to open?

From a usability viewpoint, this is a terrible solution for the user but very convenient when you are a developer....

You should look at things from a user perspective, not from a developer one. According to your logic, it would be okay to display the filenames in the office add-in using the custom id of the document because the web gui shows this information...

Also this bug (or defect) forces the user to use 2 CALs (one for the web interface, one for the office add-in). So with your method, not only users lose time but a business that purchases your product needs to double the number of users to have his staff able to work. That double the profit for you guys. Nicely done...

The Office-Addin is completely free so you are completely wrong.

Poor response and not even the acknowledgement of the issue. You are a winner.
